Social Media in the Workplace
Kim Maslaniak, HR Consultant and owner of KAMhr, will be presenting at the May 19, 2011 meeting of Lunchtime Leaders. Ms. Maslaniak’s presentation, Social Media in the Workplace, will cover the use of social media in recruitment and hiring, employee privacy, discipline issues regarding social media use and the key elements of an effective social media policy.
“With the growth of social media in today’s society, employers have to be aware of its impact in the workplace,” said Ms. Maslaniak. “Business owners are now aware of the valuable use of social media as a marketing tool, but they also need to be mindful of the effects of both the employer’s and the employees’ use of social media on the business. The laws on these issues are changing every day, just like technology, and employers need to be up to date on what they are permitted to do in managing this area of their business.”
“This session of Lunchtime Leaders is a must for those businesses looking at implementing social media as part of their overall marketing strategy,” said Stewart Savage, coordinator of the Lunchtime Leader program. “Although social media can add a new dimension to customer interaction, it does come with its own set of issues. Ms. Maslaniak will definitely shed some light on workplace issues related to social media.”
