Skydance Skydiving – Northern California’s Premier Skydiving Dropzone
Green Light. Go! If you are ready to experience the feeling of human flight, you can get started by visiting the Skydance Skydiving website (skydanceskydiving.com). Skydance Skydiving is considered northern California’s premier skydiving dropzone.
Skydance has been operating in Davis, CA since 1987. They are also the only dropzone with an FAA waiver to skydive above 28,000′, and one of the facilities in Northern California to tandem skydive above 22,000′. In addition to their many unique features, they are also a Group Member affiliate and designated “Training Center” of the United States Parachute Association (USPA).
The website includes a number of features that capture the spirit and excitement of skydiving. From the homepage videos, to in-depth information about High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) options, the website makes it easy to learn and to sign-up for an experience of a lifetime.
The color scheme for the website is based upon the business logo. The logo was provided by the business and the colors in the logo were used as the base color for the website. The website uses a yellow-green (#93a92a) and a dim-grey (#646569. These colors provide a nice contrast, plus the yellow-green is eye-catching.
An additional color was added to complement the primary colors and add another dimension to the color scheme.
The website was designed with a hero video. Skydiving is an exciting sport and a video hero section is able to convey the sense of excitement that is experienced during free fall. The video elements were provided by Skydance Skydiving. Video editing was completed by Abaton Consulting.
Since the hero video is hosted on-site, steps were taken to ensure fast load times while maintaining image quality.
The client wanted to visually represent the many aspects of skydiving. Additionally, they wanted to highlight the main services they have to offer. To meet these two goals, a graphic navigation bar was create on the homepage. The navigation bar includes four links to key skydiving services.
- First Skydive
- Learn to Skydive
Each link is composed of a background image, text, and a link to related topics.
What is more important is that the image series shows that Skydance Skydiving caters to a wide range of skydiving enthusiasts; from the beginner who is interested in a tandem skydive to the advanced high-altitude low-opening experienced skydiver.
The website also includes a secondary navigation section that appears on all pages. This section links visitors to specialty sections of the website and other skydiving services.
- Photo Gallery
- Gift Cards
- Event Calendar
- Action Air Parachutes (Facebook Page link)
The Skydance Skydiving photo gallery provides tremendous insight to the fun and excitement that is part of human-flight experience. The photo gallery includes images taken while on the ground, in the plane, and while skydiving. Together, the images are an excellent representation of what takes place during the skydiving experience.
Images in the photo gallery come from two sources. A majority of the images were provided by Skydance Skydiving and Kurt Issel. Other select images (on ground, diver training, and in-plane) were provided by Abaton Consulting and Stewart Savage.
Skydance Skydiving offers a number of skydiving options at a number of different altitudes. I wanted to relay these options in a visual manner. The pricing table was designed to reflect the options for jumps. Each item in the pricing table was staggered to visually represent the options for different altitudes; starting with the 9000ft tandem jump on the lower left to the 22,000ft tandem jump on the upper right.
Be sure to check the Skydance Skydiving website for current pricing information.
Specialty WordPress Plugins
Two different plugins were used to add features/functionality to the website. The first plugin in Table Press. Skydance has information that is best displayed in a table format. This table plugin does the trick by displaying information in a responsive table. No need to manually build and populate tables.
Another plugin used, that added a really nice feature to the website, is the Weather Atlas plugin. This plugin displays weather information for specified locals. It shows temparature, wind, humidity, barometric pressure, conditions, and includes a multi-day forecast. A really nice addition to a skydiving service.
