In an attempt to capitalize on the success of Groupon, Facebook is launching a new daily deal service.  The service will be rolling-out in key cities across the US:  San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, Atlanta, and Austin.

Programs such as Groupon, Living Social, Wow, BuyWithMe, and others are leading the way with online discount offers via email and web.  Consumers are looking for ways to save money while enjoying the finer things in life.  Online discounts fill the gap between the increased demand for luxury and the shrinking budget.

With the growing interest in email and web-based discount offers, Facebook could not look the other way.  The new deal program will likely be a way of monetizing the already existing no-cost deals that are provided through Facebook Places.
