On a regular basis, I recommend a thorough review of your website. Whether by the business owner, staff, or the website manager, a scheduled and comprehensive review is needed. The need for a regular review was reinforced as I reviewed my business website.
While updating my website, I discovered a problem with my MailChimp subscription form. For some reason the “Subscribe” button at the bottom of the form was missing. I know the button was there before, but not it was no longer visible. After some troubleshooting, I come to find out that there is an issue with the code of the MailChimp form that causes the “Subscribe” button to be invisible and not work as prescribed.
A quick search of the Internet provided me with the solution and my email list subscription form was back in business. The solution to my specific problem can be found at http://barebulbmarketing.com/2012/07/02/mailchimp-and-wordpress-embed-form-code-bug/
Although there was a problem which was quickly resolved, I am more concerned about the actual duration of the problem. How long did the problem go undiscovered? How many people tried to subscribe to my email list and were unable to do so? How many opportunities were lost because my potential customer was unable to contact me?
Websites, as with any component of a business, should be reviewed on a regular basis. Content should be reviewed for relevance and accuracy. Technology should be reviewed to see if it is still needed and/or is still working. Most importantly, is your website meeting the needs of your business.
